PUTRAJAYA: The number of fatalities due to Influenza A (H1N1) in the country stood at 72 with no new deaths having been recorded by health authorities in the past 24 hours.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said 87 new patients were warded for influenza-like illness (ILI), while 160 had been discharged.
“A total of 1,238 patients are being treated for ILI nationwide, including in private hospitals, and of the number, only 264 were confirmed Influenza A (H1N1) cases,” he said on Wednesday.
Dr Ismail said 39 patients, two of them new cases, were being treated in intensive care units and they included patients with chronic illness, a pregnant woman and a post-natal patient as well as children and infants.
“Parents whose children are asthmatic must keep a close eye on their health and take the precautionary measures that health authorities have suggested.
“They must also ensure their children avoid crowded and public areas as much as possible so that they will not contract the illness,” he said.
