No death for few days

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- No fatality due to the Influenza A (H1N1) has been recorded in the country since Sept 19 with the death toll due to the pandemic still at 77, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said.

He said 282 new patients with influenza-like illness (ILI) were admitted to hospitals and 130 patients were allowed to return home.

"This leaves 856 patients with ILI still at 95 hospitals, including 10 private hospitals, nationwide," he said in a statement here today.

Dr Mohd Ismail said from laboratory tests conducted, only 178 patients or 21 per cent of those being treated were H1N1 positive.

About 90 per cent of those confirmed infected with H1N1 and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit were in high-risk groups, comprising children below five years old (eight), obesity (four), chronic illness (three) and chronic respiratory illness (two), he added.

He said the H1N1 pandemic was still active and advised the public to seek immediate treatment should they have ILI.
