Two more H1N1-related deaths in Singapore, a total of 8 death

SINGAPORE: Two more Influenza A (H1N1) patients have died in Singapore, bringing the total number of H1N1-related deaths in Singapore to eight.

A 51-year-old Indian woman with Down's Syndrome and high body mass index (BMI) passed away on Wednesday afternoon from pneumonia caused by H1N1.

She went to Tan Tock Seng Hospital's Emergency Department (ED) on August 5 after a three-day history of flu-like symptoms. At the ED, she had breathing difficulties and low blood pressure.

Another patient, a 78-year-old Chinese man, with no medical history passed away on Thursday morning. He went to Alexandra Hospital's ED on August 4 with a one-day history of fever and shortness of breath.

While in the intensive care unit (ICU), his condition deteriorated and he passed away on Thursday morning. The cause of death has been certified as acute myocardial infarction, with Influenza A (H1N1) pneumonia as a contributing factor.

Currently, there are 88 patients in hospitals with H1N1 infections, 11 of them in intensive care.
