SEREMBAN: The Health Department here is probing how the influenza A (H1N1) virus had spread to the remote areas, affecting two schools where the pupils are mostly orang asli.
State Health Department director Dr Zainal Ariffin Omar said he was ‘amazed’ that students at SK Putra and SK Petaseh in Jelebu were affected as the schools were in remote areas.
“Almost all the students there are children of orang asli. We are trying to figure out how the virus could have spread to these areas,” he said.
The department has also asked trainees at two national service training camps and students from several schools to either be quarantined or return home.
They were Rachado Bay and D’Bono camps, Port Dickson Polytechnic and the Rembau Skills Development Institute.
Others are Sek Teknik Tuanku Ja’afar Seremban and the Gemas Mara Junior Science College.
In Ipoh, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris in Tanjung Malim is closed until next Tuesday because some of its students have shown flu-like symptoms.
